Plan the Lighting Before the Drywall
Lighting decisions are easier to make when you think about how each room will actually be used. Recessed lighting can provide general illumination, but task lighting, pendants, vanity lights, exterior fixtures, and well-placed switches all serve different purposes.
Before drywall goes up, it helps to review where furniture, beds, counters, mirrors, and work areas may be located. That can guide fixture placement, switch locations, dimmers, and wiring you may want for future needs. The goal is not to add more lights everywhere—it is to put the right light where it will be useful.
